Special Agent/Criminal Investigator

The Maryland Office of the State Prosecutor investigates and prosecutes public corruption, election law violations, and other crimes throughout the State of Maryland. 

The Office is seeking an experienced law enforcement professional to serve as a Special Agent/Criminal Investigator, conducting investigations and supporting prosecution efforts related to a variety of alleged offenses, including misconduct by public officials, bribery, perjury, theft, extortion, tax evasion, and election law and campaign finance violations.

Responsibilities will include interviewing potential witnesses, victims and suspects; collecting, preserving, and analyzing physical and documentary evidence; preparing and participating in the execution of search warrants and other legal process; assisting prosecutors with trial preparation; and testifying in grand jury proceedings, criminal trials, and other hearings.

Substantial experience in investigations or a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field with an emphasis in investigations, forensic analysis, or accounting is required. The preferred candidate will have a master’s degree in a related field or equivalent law enforcement experience.

Ability to work cooperatively within a prosecutor-directed investigative team consisting of both attorneys and investigators, often from multiple law enforcement agencies, is essential.  Special Appointment Permanent Position, State Employee Grade 17, Annual Salary $71,805 – $113,243.
