March 29, 2021: Ivan Gonzalez, Baltimore Police Officer and Candidate for Mayor of Baltimore City, charged with Perjury and other crimes related to his 2020 Mayoral Campaign

Maryland State Prosecutor Charlton T. Howard III announced today that a Baltimore City Grand Jury has indicted Ivan Gonzalez, a Baltimore Police Officer and 2020 candidate for Baltimore Mayor, on charges of Perjury, Falsifying a Voter Registration, False Oath, and False Entry in a Public Record.  Mr. Gonzalez is alleged to have provided false information under oath in his filings with the Baltimore Board of Elections during his 2020 campaign for Baltimore Mayor, claiming that his residency was in Baltimore City.  If convicted of Perjury, Mr. Gonzalez faces a maximum sentence of 10 years.  A trial date has not yet been set.

“The Office of the State Prosecutor is committed to ensuring the integrity and transparency of our electoral process,” said Howard. “We will continue to investigate and where appropriate hold accountable anyone who is alleged to have subverted that process by knowingly providing false information to establish their qualifications as a candidate for political office.”

All individuals who are charged with a criminal offense are presumed to be innocent.
