January 9, 2017: Indictment of Gary Brown, Jr.

 

INDICTMENT

The grand jurors of the State of Maryland for the body of Baltimore City do on their oath present that

COUNT I

GARY BROWN, Jr.

On or about January 13, 2016, at Baltimore City aforesaid, did make a campaign contribution in a name other than his own to the campaign finance entity known as the Committee to Elect Catherine E. Pugh, to wit: did willfully and knowingly place six thousand dollars ($6000.00) in cash into the checking account of Desiree Johnson, his mother, and then present her signed check in the amount of six thousand dollars ($6000.00) dated on the same day, drawn on that same checking account, to the Committee to Elect Catherine E. Pugh, in violation of §13-602(a)(5) of the Election Law Article, Annotated Code of Maryland and against the peace, government and dignity of the State.

COUNT II

GARY BROWN, Jr.

On or about January 13, 2016, at Baltimore City aforesaid, did make a campaign contribution in a name other than his own to the campaign finance entity known as the Committee to Elect Catherine E. Pugh, to wit: did willfully and knowingly place three thousand dollars ($3000.00) in cash into the checking account of Samuel Johnson, his stepfather, and then engaged in a check card purchase transferring three thousand dollars ($3000.00), from that same checking account, to the Committee to Elect Catherine E. Pugh, in violation of §13-602(a)(5) of the Election Law Article, Annotated Code of Maryland and against the peace, government and dignity of the State.

GARY BROWN, Jr.

On or about January 13, 2016, at Baltimore City aforesaid, did make a campaign contribution in a name other than his own to the campaign finance entity known as the Committee to Elect Catherine E. Pugh, to wit: did willfully and knowingly place three thousand dollars ($3000.00) in cash into the checking account of Danny Brown, his brother, and then engaged in a check card purchase transferring three thousand dollars ($3000.00), from that same checking account, to the Committee to Elect Catherine E. Pugh, in violation of §13-602(a)(5) of the Election Law Article, Annotated Code of Maryland and against the peace, government and dignity of the State.

 GARY BROWN, Jr.

On or about March 9, 2016, at Baltimore City aforesaid, did make a campaign contribution in a name other than his own to the campaign finance entity known as the Committee to Elect Catherine E. Pugh, to wit: did willfully and knowingly place three thousand dollars ($3000.00) in cash into the checking account of Samuel Johnson, his stepfather, and then engaged in a check card transaction transferring three thousand dollars ($3000.00), from that same checking account, to the Committee to Elect Catherine E. Pugh, in violation of §13-602(a)(5) of the Election Law Article, Annotated Code of Maryland and against the peace, government and dignity of the State.

GARY BROWN, Jr.

On or about April 11, 2016, at Baltimore City aforesaid, did make a campaign contribution in a name other than his own to the campaign finance entity known as the Committee to Elect Catherine E. Pugh, to wit: did willfully and knowingly place three thousand dollars ($3000.00) in cash into the checking account of Danny Brown, his brother, and then present his signed check in the amount of three thousand dollars ($3000.00), from that same checking account, to the Committee to Elect Catherine E. Pugh, in violation of §13-602(a)(5) of the Election Law Article, Annotated Code of Maryland and against the peace, government and dignity of the State.

COUNT VI

GARY BROWN, Jr.

From on or about January 13, 2016 through and including on or about April 12, 2016, did exceed the six thousand dollar ($6000.00) limit on contributions in an election cycle to any one single campaign finance entity, to wit: did contribute eighteen thousand dollars ($18,000.00) to the campaign finance entity known as the Committee to Elect Catherine E. Pugh during the above referenced period, in violation of Section 13-226(b)(1) of the Election Law Article, Annotated Code of Maryland and against the peace, government and dignity of the State.
