CARRIE LAUREN TAYLOR, FORMER TREASURER OF THE CECIL COUNTY REPUBLICAN CENTRAL COMMITTEE, PLEADS GUILTY TO FELONY THEFT OF COMMITTEE FUNDS

State Prosecutor Emmet C. Davitt announced today that Carrie Lauren Taylor pleaded guilty in the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County to felony theft. The Honorable Michele D. Jaklitsch deferred disposition until November17th but restricted Ms. Taylor to her residence, except for her hours of employment, pending sentencing. This matter was referred to the Office of the State Prosecutor by the Cecil County Republican Central Committee.

According to a statement of facts presented to the court, while serving as Cecil County Republican Central Committee (“CCRCC”) Treasurer, Ms. Taylor made numerous unauthorized purchases using the CCRCC debit card and cash from various CCRCC fundraising events. Purchases included two airline tickets for personal travel, a membership with an online dating website, and payment of parking garage fees at her place of employment. Between December 2010 and December 2014, Ms. Taylor stole $8,859.69. A copy of the complete statement of facts submitted to the court is available at osp.maryland.gov.

State Prosecutor Emmet C. Davitt stated: “Carrie Taylor quite simply abused the trust that the Cecil County Republican Central Committee placed in her. Committee treasurers must recognize that misuse of committee funds for personal use cannot be tolerated.”
